Pantone's 2026 Colour of the Year: Cloud Dancer

Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2026, PANTONE 11-4201 Cloud Dancer, is a soft, airy off-white described as a calming presence. It’s meant to encourage reflection, focus, and a bit more breathing room in a world that often feels far too loud and busy.
It’s a nice reminder, because white in design is often underestimated.
White (and off-white tones like Cloud Dancer) isn’t an empty space, but rather an active space. It’s what allows everything else to work properly. Without it, design becomes visually noisy and harder to navigate. With it, content has room to breathe, hierarchy becomes clearer, and the message actually gets heard.
In web design especially, white space does a lot of heavy lifting. It improves readability, supports accessibility, and guides attention without shouting for it. For charities in particular, this matters. People often arrive on a site looking for clarity, reassurance, or urgent information. Crowded layouts can slow them down or even push them away.
There’s also something psychological going on. Off-whites like Cloud Dancer soften the experience. Pure white can sometimes feel stark or clinical, but warmer tones bring a bit of calm without losing clarity. It’s a subtle shift, but it changes how a page feels to use.
At its best, white space is not decoration. It’s structure. It’s restraint. And it’s often the difference between a site that feels overwhelming and one that feels quietly confident. Sometimes the most important design decision is what you choose not to fill.
